Sharing Stories in Windsor Neighborhoods – Windsor Center
Windsor Historical Society turns 100 this fall and hopes to mark this with milestone a celebration of the whole Windsor community. “We really want this to be about all the people of Windsor, not just about us,” notes event co-chair Florence Barlow, “so we are bringing the events into the community in hopes that people will want to share their enthusiasm for our great town and tell their own Windsor stories!”
In partnership with WIN-TV, Windsor Public Schools, the Town, local businesses, and civic organizations, the Society is hosting a series of five community events. Each of these outdoor events runs from 10 AM to 4 PM.
Past and present Windsor residents are invited to drop in to experience traveling local history exhibits, add their photo to a giant Windsor map, share their favorite Windsor stories in a special recording booth, enjoy children’s activities and more!
Share your Windsor story by:
• Join an event and bring a photo or let us take one
• Record your story at an event in our story tent
• Post stories or images on social media #windsorctstories
• Provide your story in writing at one of these events!
“We really hope this series will build on itself as the events move from neighborhood to neighborhood, and more people join in to share their stories and add their faces to help us ‘people’ Windsor on our giant map,” says Society director Doug Shipman.
“The All Together Windsor event will be a culmination of this process and we hope to be able to share back some of the stories and show people how wonderfully diverse this town is in a very concrete way – with lots of great stories and pictures of hundreds of Windsor faces all across the map!”
Event co-chair and Society President Agnes Pier remarked that “we have had a wonderful response to the Society’s efforts and are so appreciative of the support we’ve received from our community partners like WIN-TV, Windsor Public Schools, the Town staff and countless local businesses and community organizations, and of course all of our wonderful members and volunteers.
“It would not be possible without such pride in our community and their enormous generosity!”
We hope to see you there!
Rain date: Sunday, August 29
Note: Windsor Historical Society’s museum, library, and historic houses will be closed during each of these Saturday events, as all our staff and volunteers will be at the events.
