At the Windsor Senior Center.

Join us at the Windsor Senior Center for a special screening and presentation on the Berlin Equity Action Team’s award-winning short film, The 29th Connecticut Regiment and the Fight for Freedom. The film explores the history of the 29th Connecticut Regiment Volunteers, the states’ first Black regiment who fought to end slavery during the American Civil War.

The screening will be accompanied by a talk on the Windsor men who served in the regiment, including Virgil Simmons and William Chase. “To understand the Connecticut 29th is to understand the true significance of the Civil War to the people of Windsor,” says Windsor Historical Society Program Manager, Heather Lodge. “These men understood exactly what they were fighting for.”
