I bought a copy of this map on a visit to the Windsor Historical society in 2016. It is a useful reference point when I am deep into the environment and relationships of my family’s history settling Windsor. An incredible value for the $3.50 cash. I should have gotten 2 copies!!

I did not see Thomas Dibble, although he lived there during this time and his name is on the large monument there in Windsor. Maybe I could have overlooked it. I would appreciate if if you would Let me know if is on the map.
Michelle Tom –
Hi Elsie,
Why, you’re right! I never noticed that before. He certainly should be on this map. He did buy and sell land at least a couple times though, so maybe the folks who drew up this map chose to include the names of those he bought from and sold to, rather than include his name in multiple places? In any case, he should be in the Plan of the Palisado inset where Wm. Hubbard is. Dibble bought Hubbard’s lot, so as Deborah Albert says in her comment, Dibble lived next to Matthew Grant.
Before he lived there, he lived just south of the Bissell Ferry Rd., so about where Robert Winchell’s name is.
I’ve been thinking about updating this map, which would be a VERY long-term project, but certainly worthwhile (and fun!). So when we do, I’ll be sure to put Thomas Dibble where he belongs.

Deborah Albert –
At least 10 of my ancestors founded Windsor. Phelps, Bissell, Buell, Porter, Griswold and Thomas Dibble who lived next to Matthew Grant!
Elsie Goins –
Michelle Tom…. Is there anything written up in a booklet or pamphlet that tells me anything about Robert and Thomas Dibble, Simon Hoyt and Lt Walter Fyler.
Thanks for you help,
Michelle Tom –
Elsie, I’ve replied to you via email, as we have information on all these folks.
Eric Hoyt –
Hi,
I’m a descendant of Simon Hoyt. That’s neat to see both Hoyt’s Meadow and Simon Hoyt listed here. Is it true that there is a farm here, Thrall Farms, that is one of the oldest continuously operating family farms in the U.S.? So cool!

A few years ago I purchased this. My ancestors were Gillette. I bought it not knowing I would be able to find my ancestors plots of land. Needless to say I was very happy.
Kate Buenrostro –
On some genealogy websites Winchell is aka Mitchell. Have you seen this? I am a direct descendant of Sarah Porter and Nathaniel Winchell or Mitchell, through their daughter Mary, who married Samuel Gibbs Jr.
I wonder what name I should use.
Anon –
Do you have written land records of these folks and those who lived there (besides a map) it would be nice to have a written list with relations (:
Michelle Tom –
Yes, Windsor is very lucky to have ALL of its land records going back to 1640 still available. That is how we were able to make this recreated map in the first place.
In fact, they are scanned and online to search as well, on the town clerk’s website. https://townofwindsorct.com/townclerk/
Click on Land Indexes Online, then click the Indexbooks tab at the top for land records prior to 1970.
Land records might be able to give you evidence of familiar relationships, but more often than not, they will only be for individuals.
