They Called Me Lizzy:  From Slavery to the White House

March 23, 2013       3 PM. to 4:30 PM

To honor Women’s History Month, meet Elizabeth Kecky, born into slavery in 1818 whose dressmaking skills and entrepreneurial savvy led her to purchase her freedom and eventually to a post as Mary Todd Lincoln’s personal dressmaker.  This dramatic recounting of Lizzy’s experiences is a story at times tragic, at times triumphant, but always fascinating, as interpreted by actress Stephanie Jackson. Following the performance, enjoy a selection of delicious finger foods and teas. COST: $12.50 adults, $10 WHS members and children 10 and over. Limited Seating: Reservations required for this event.  For more information, contact the Society at 860/688-3813.
