What do you get when you add
kids, painting, sunshine, photography, nature walks,
creative writing, a mosquito sculpture and over 375
years of history?

This
summer, children from all over Connecticut in grades
3 – 8 are invited to sign up for the Windsor
Historical Society’s First Annual Visions of
Windsor Summer Camp held from August 11 – 15th
from 8:30 – 4:30pm. Children will explore Windsor’s
history while participating in field trips through
modern Windsor to discover what Windsor means to
them. Using the historical society’s “Four
Centuries of Windsor” and the new “Windsor Then and
Now: A Photo History 1890 – 2008” exhibitions as a
starting point, children will then go out into the
community to discover Windsor today. Some areas on
interest will be the Palisado Green, Palisado
Burying Grounds, Town Hall, Huntington House, Loomis
Chaffee, River Trail and various statues, monuments
and sculptures. Children will learn photography and
photo editing skills, canvas painting and creative
writing skills. The week will culminate with a
group focused exhibition that will travel around
Windsor in 2009.
The
cost for the summer camp is $125 per child which
includes materials and snacks, children should bring
their own lunch. Children are encouraged to wear
comfortable clothing suitable for messy play.
