An Up-Close Look at Connecticut Valley’s Famous Shade Tobacco Industry

June 19, 2014       5:30 PM to 7 PM

Please join us on Thursday June 19 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. for wine and cheese and a program about one of Windsor’s most emblematic products -- tobacco.  Following a short annual meeting, Paul Christian of Christian Tobacco LLC in Suffield will show how Connecticut’s world-renowned shade tobacco is harvested, cured, and processed.  Kathi Martin from Brown’s Harvest will bring samples and artifacts associated with tobacco growing, harvesting, and cigar production. Brianna Dunlap of the Luddy/Taylor Connecticut Valley Tobacco Museum will bring a collection of tobacco-based art from the museum to display for the evening. The cost for this program is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors and students, and free for Windsor Historical Society members, volunteers and Lets Go Arts Card holders.

The annual meeting portion of the program consists of a five minute report on past year accomplishments and goals for the coming year Executive Director Christine Ermenc. Society members and volunteers may purchase items at a ten percent discount from the museum shop and take a rose as a token of appreciation for their support.   Members present will vote on the following board and officer slate.
