Saturday Afternoon at the Movies

January 18, 2014       2 PM to 3 PM

Internationally known Connecticut performers Donald Sosin and Joanna Seaton provide fabulous musical accompaniment for silent films.  On the playbill: Upstream, a long-lost and recently rediscovered 1927 movie by John Ford.  It’s a back-stage comedy where Shakespeareans and vaudevillians face off, featuring a love triangle between a vain but not terribly talented member of a famous acting family, the gifted young knife-thrower who loves him, and her partner who of course adores her.   And, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Charlie Chaplin’s appearance as The Tramp on the silver screen, we will see him in a short film from 1916, The Count which involves a tailor’s handyman, fair maidens, a count, imposters and a burned pair of trousers.  For all ages.  COST: $6 adults, $5 seniors and students, $4 members.  We’ll provide popcorn and drinks. For more information, contact the Society at 860/688-3813.  Snow date:  January 25, 2 PM to 3 PM.
