Rights and Reproductions

Windsor Historical Society encourages the personal, non-commercial use of its collections by students, educators, scholars, the public, and other non-profit organizations. However, please acknowledge the Society as the source of relevant materials by using the credit line: “Windsor Historical Society, Windsor, Connecticut.”

Written permission must be obtained from the Society to reproduce or publish photographs, documents, recordings, or images of objects from the collection in any form for commercial or non-commercial uses. Any permission granted will be for a one-time, non-exclusive use only, and the use must be accompanied by the appropriate credit line. Reproduction and use fees will be determined on a case-by-case basis; the Society may reduce or waive use fees for non-commercial organizations. Contact the librarian at mtom@windsorhistoricalsociety.org for further information.

The Windsor Historical Society prohibits the taking of photographs in its galleries, historic houses, and library. Waivers of this policy for personal or professional use must be obtained in advance.

On occasion the Society is able to provide photographic reproductions of material in the library or museum collections. The Society may need to contract with outside photographers to handle large or complex orders. Fees charged will cover all costs and staff time and must be paid in advance. The acquisition of a photographic reproduction does not constitute an authorization to display, publish, reproduce, or distribute it.

All fees charged help support the Windsor Historical Society’s library and museum collections. The Society is committed to the preservation of materials in its collections, and reserves the right to deny permission for reproductions when the items in the collection would be adversely affected.

The Windsor Historical Society may not own the literary or reproduction rights to materials in its library and museum collections. It is the responsibility of those seeking to publish or reproduce either published or unpublished materials in the Society’s collections to secure permission from those legally entitled to claim such rights under U.S. copyright law. The Society is not responsible for violation of copyright by an author, publisher, or any person or entity. The Windsor Historical Society assumes no responsibility for third-party claims resulting from the failure of an author, publisher, or any other user of the Society’s collections to investigate and secure literary or reproduction rights to materials in its collections.
