A Ride to Remember:  Bus Tour of Wilson

November 9, 2014       1:30 PM -3:30 PM

On Sunday, November 9, from 1:30 to 3:30p.m., take a trip down memory lane with historian Beverly Garvan and school bus driver Sterling Viets, both of them born and bred in Windsor with a passion for history, and Windsor Historical Society Director Christine Ermenc. Learn about the many changes this area of Windsor has seen over the past century and why it is known as Wilson. Each participant will receive a packet of historic images from Windsor Historical Societyís library collections to compare with the features they see as the tour progresses. Evocative stories about Wilson from the Windsor Storytellers books will be shared as the tour progresses. Find out more about Wilsonís brickyards and many early 20th century farms, view scenic Keney Park, and Northwood Cemetery, and hear about neighborhood institutions and businesses like the Wilson Fire Company, Wilson Congregational Church, Sidís General Store,, the Wilson Drug Company, and the Roger Wolcott School. Weíll continue up Deerfield Road and Windsor Avenue, ending our trip with Washington Park, Roger Ludlow School, and John Fitch High School.

Spaces are limited; our bus tours sell out fast. Reserve your spot by Friday, November 7 by calling 860-688-3813 or contacting info@windsorhistoricalsociety.org. The school bus will meet participants at the Society. The cost for this program is $12 for adults, $11 for seniors and students, and $10 for Windsor Historical Society members.
