Lunch and Learn: A Pop History of Connecticut

April 3, 2014       noon to 1 PM

We all know “Have a Coke and a Smile” but in Connecticut, you might also hear “Always Ask for Avery’s.”  At one time, there were nearly eighty independent soft drink businesses in Connecticut.  Today, just four survive. Patrick Smith, Education Director at the Connecticut State Museum, will take a look at the boom and bust of soda making in Connecticut from its rise during the days of prohibition to the present revival of locally-made sodas.  Following the talk, a variety of sodas unique to Connecticut and ice cream to make floats will be available for sampling.  So bring your lunch and your thirst for history to the “Pop History of Connecticut!”  COST: $6 adults, $5 seniors and students, $4 members.  For more information, contact the Society at 860/688-3813.
