Scope and Contents

Leather bound copybook containing hand written music. The book contains approximately 500 popular melodies arranged for the violin, flute, or keyboard. Book created by John Gaylord, Jr. (1776-1856) of Windsor, CT. 199 pages with alphabetical index tipped in at the back.


Typewritten note taped into the inside cover of the album by the donor reads: "Music book for violin and the receipt book [1962.25.3] were made by my great grandfather John Gaylord Jr. who was born and lived in Windsor during 1776-1856. The music book was a blank book and with pen and ink he filled in all lines, notes and lettering. [signed] Helen A. Moore."


Front flyleaf signed "John Gaylord Owner." Covers are dark tan, soft leather with inked decorative scroll design as a border along the outer edges. Measures 11" x 8.75" x 1.25'.



Custodial history

This book, along with a book of receipts (recipes) also created by John Gaylord Jr. was donated by Helen A. Moore in 1962. She is the great-granddaughter of John Gaylord, Jr. (1776-1856).
